Infrared nondestructive testing
Gunshot residue detection
Investigating active thermography methods for detecting gunshot residue on fabrics.
Can thermal imaging reveal gunshot residue without touching or damaging the evidence? We investigate flash-pulse thermography to map residue around bullet holes in fabrics. Quantitative image analysis helps distinguish residue indications and describe their spatial distribution, supporting research into shooting-distance estimation.

Benefits
Rapid, contactless inspection that preserves the sample for further examination.
Novelty
Active thermal excitation combined with quantitative residue-pattern analysis and explainable machine learning.
Applications
A complementary tool for forensic laboratories investigating residue distributions and shooting distance.
Evaluating thermographic screening and developing a compact device with an integrated temperature reference.
How reliable is non-contact temperature screening? We study how ambient conditions, calibration and the choice of facial region affect measurements. Our compact IR Face Scanner combines thermal imaging with an integrated heated reference to improve measurement stability and explore the practical limits of estimating body temperature from skin temperature.

Benefits
Fast, contactless measurement with a built-in reference to improve temperature stability.
Novelty
An integrated active reference element, supported by statistical studies of facial temperature and measurement conditions.
Applications
Development and evaluation of temperature-screening systems for workplaces and public spaces, with attention to the limits of skin-temperature measurement.
